Presentation of Grand Cross of Hutt to Rabbi Coleman
Leading members of Perth’s Jewish community and friends gathered on Sunday 27th January 2013 to witness the Grand Cross of Hutt being presented to Emeritus Rabbi Dr Shalom Coleman at his home in Perth on behalf of H. R. H. Prince Leonard of Hutt.
“As the highest honor of the Principality H.R.H. does not bestow the Grand Cross of Hutt lightly. It is the mark of a man or woman who has performed truly exceptional services to the Sovereign, the Principality, the community and the world” explained Sir Richard Ananda Barton K.O.W.L., representing H.R.H. “Rabbi Coleman has been a tireless builder of bridges between the Jewish and gentile communities, he has been a force for good on five continents” added Sir Richard.
In
answer Justice Michael Odes QC president of the Perth Hebrew Congregation
had this to say;
“Rabbi Coleman has become an iconic figure, not only in the Jewish Community
but also in the wider community. He has devoted his entire life to the
service of others....The word retirement finds no place in his vocabulary.
.....May I use this opportunity to convey the best wishes of all of us to H.
R. H. Prince Leonard and to his family and to express on behalf of all of us
the hope that the principality will continue to thrive.
After
accepting the Grand Cross and accompanying citation Rabbi Coleman
said.......
"I would like to thank H. R. H. for having thought that such an award is one
which I should be worthy of. I want you to convey to him my blessings and to
tell him that I am always here to support his endeavours”
‘I also want to express, not only on my behalf but on behalf of the Jewish
people that we are very grateful for the friendship and support that is
being given by people like
H. R. H. … I hope that the Prince and Princess Shirley will always have a
good life and a long life with good health and that the Principality will
grow from strength to strength” added the Rabbi.
Following the presentation those attending enjoyed afternoon tea.
Rabbi
Coleman was presented with the Grand Cross of Hutt as part of the
Principality of Hutt River’s 2013 New Year’s Honours
List by Lt. Sir Richard Ananda Barton KOWL., RHRL.
