Royal Hutt River Dedication Cricket Club is the national cricket team of the Principality of Hutt River.
 The team plays annually in the Willowfest Australian Cricket Club Championships
 held in Mildura, Victoria, Australia in December each year.

Game #5
Hutt River Dedication Vs Danger Islanders
 30/12/2012

Hutt River Dedication took to the field on day four well out of the placings and playing for pride. In identical circumstances to last years carnival, Hankinson won his first coin toss of the tournament (leaving his toss record as captain 2-8) and decided to bat. Although not possessing a formidable bowling attack, the Islanders were able to steadily dismiss the Dedication Batsmen. Falconer (17), Garner (18), Ian McMahon (13) and Sluiter (19) showed some resistance, however the side was dismissed for only 127. Hankinson's decision not to accept the umpires proposal of a 40 minute game of indoor cricket came back to bite him, with some odd decisions by the men in blue. Mills was sent to the sheds after being trapped BBW (box before wicket) and Ian McMahon was also triggered after the islanders reached the 10 second appeal threshold.

In the field, standout performances were few and far between. Falconer put his hand up for back to back horses arse awards, not attempting a regulation catch in gully while super-sub Brad Gowers was able snare five wickets. Jarryd Mills also successfully fielded the ball when designated to do so - restricting the Islanders to just a single to long on - as a keeper.

On a bleak day for PHR Dedication, one highlight was the performance of Ian McMahon, who in a single innings, bested Joel McMahons total runs for the tournament. McMahon also impressed with the ball, and Dedication selectors were seen in deep discussion with him post match as to whether his son can fill in for a game or two next year while he plays the whole carnival.

 

Game #4
Hutt River Dedication Vs McLaren Crushers
 29/12/2013

With Hutt River sitting in 3rd place with just one win for the campaign, Game 4 would be make or break for the boys in red against the McLaren Crushers. Hankinson let the team down early, spilling a simple catch off Murdoch and sparing a batsman who went on to score a quick half century. Otherwise, the Dedication lads were very solid in the field, and after a big hitting start the McLaren batsmen became bogged down as a result of some tight bowling. Star performers included Murdoch (3/31)
Pay (2/32) and Ian Sluiter (2/23 from 7 overs) who provided a splendid spell of tight sharp darts that locked the McLaren batsman in their creases.
After a fast start McLaren were all out for 214 in the 49th over.

Chasing the formidable target of 215 for victory, the Hutt River innings started off shakily, with Marshall Richardson detaching his groin from the bone before falling on his sword with a suicide run out. Enter Buckets McCarthy. Promoted to number four in the batting line up, Buckets worked the ball to all areas of the ground in a masterful display of defensive stroke making. Of particular note was the quick-thinking decision to shoulder arms to a no ball on the stumps before running two in the pursuing chaos. Buckets toyed with the fielders both physically and emotionally; in particular through the placement of a number of shots tantalisingly close to members of the tight field around the bat. With partners Garner (13) and Burke (26) McCarthy pushed the score to 71. After Burke and McCarthy were dismissed in quick succession, the task fell to Murdoch and Mills to chip away at the remaining 120 runs, and chip away they did. Mills ground out a gutsy and technical 44, showing complete and utter disdain for the McLaren bowlers. With Murdoch (27) the partnership provided 67 runs and put Dedication within reach of an unlikely victory before Mills, ever the traditionalist, dismissed himself in the forties. Unfortunately, despite the best attempts of the Sluiters and newcomer Tayler Pay, the tail end was not able to make the reaming runs and Dedication fell an agonising 5 runs shy of victory.
 

Game #3
Hutt River Dedication Vs Mildura East CC
28/12/2013

Hutt River ventured to the breeding ground of weak cricketers such as Jarryd Mills and Sir Geoffrey Pascoe to take on Mildura East at the Mildura Showgrounds. Sent into the field in blistering 42 degree heat, the Dedication boys struggled to find momentum after the mornings intense win and East were able to score at a decent clip. Opening bowler Clinton Murdoch delivered a very tight spell for two wickets. Unfortunately his companions were unable to match his economical performance, and were dispatched to all corners of the ground by Jason Harris who is to believed to have gotten lost on his way to cup grade. Dedication's bowlers were not helped by some sloppy fielding -
in particular by Falconer who tried to catch like a crocodile devoid of a bottom jaw.

Chasing a total of 164 from 120 balls was always going to be tough, however Burke (29) and Falconer got the side off to a blistering start, smashing the ball onto the trotting track surrounding the oval with a reckless abandon. When Falconer fell for 28 with the score on 61 - hopes were high of a successful run chase given the bulk of the Dedication batting was still to come. Unfortunately these hopes were quickly dashed when McMahon threw his wicket away the very next ball, leaving the East Bowler on a hat trick. Hankinson came to the wicket to face the hat trick ball, which unfortunately for the Dedication skipper turned out to be arguably the delivery of the carnival, trapping Hankinson on the crease and clipping the side of off stump after some vicious movement off the pitch. Thankfully Mills (30) and Garner (29) were able to right the ship in the middle of a Mildura Dust-storm, with a 55 run partnership that was a mix of hard running and cunning strokeplay. Mills playing a textbook double handed backhand down the line for four runs as well as Garner hurling yorkers for byes were particularly notable. Despite Murdoch's best efforts when Mills was dismissed with the total at 145 - Dedication fell just 14 runs shy of the target for their second close defeat of the tournament.

Hutt River Dedication Vs Kangarilla B
27/12/2013

A new-look Principality of Hutt River Dedication line-up took to the Mildura Senior College Oval against the old enemy Kangarilla for Game One of the 2013 Willowfest Carnival. After losing the toss, Hankinson’s men were sent into the field. Newcomer Clinton Murdoch opened the bowling in tandem with Sluiter and a high level of pressure was applied to the Kangarilla bowlers from the first ball. Murdoch needed little time to achieve his first wicket in the red and white – breaking through on his fourth delivery. This early success was met with the traditional Joel McMahon mid pitch face plant celebration, much to the delight of the Dedication faithful. From the outset the bowling was tight, with Murdoch (3 for 15 – 10 overs), Sluiter (2-17 – 8 Overs) and Simon Body (10 overs for 26 runs) the pick bowling crop that was consistent across the board.

Unfortunately Dedication were their own worst enemies in the field, dropping five catches including twice dropping Kangarilla’s top scorer on his way to 76. Jarryd Mills found it rough going without the gloves, moving into early horses arse contention with two dropped catches in the outfield. Despite these setbacks, Dedication was able to restrict Kangarilla to a very gettable 9/156 off 50 overs.

After the early dismissal of Mills, PHR Dedication’s run chase started in a positive fashion, with Marshall Richardson (24) and Vaughn Garner (19) putting on a steady second wicket partnership. Garner’s dismissal triggered a mini collapse, with the wickets of Richardson, McMahon and Sluiter falling in quick succession. Hankinson, Falconer & Murdoch all contributed to the total in the closing stages; with Murdoch partnering with Todd McCarthy to almost drag the side across the line in a dramatic final eight overs. However it was Sluiter’s inability to incapacitate the 13 year old Nathan Lester when bowling that ultimately cost Dedication, with the youngster breaking Dedication’s back with a spectacular catch to dismiss Hankinson (25) as well as a pearler of a delivery to dismiss Murdoch (20) and end Dedication’s run chase.

PHR Dedication are scheduled to play two 20/20 matches tomorrow against powerhouse local sides Mildura West and Mildura East.


 

 

Hutt River Dedication 2013 Squad Announced

The 2013 Willowfest Carnival will be held from Dec 27 - Dec 30.

Hutt River will enter their 9th Willowfest carnival still searching for their illusive maiden championship.

The squad for 2013 is as follows:

Marshall Richardson
Simon Body

The off-season saw some tough decisions made by the Hutt River selectors, with Phil Barker delisted after winning the horses arse
and Brendan McCarthy unavailable due to general weakness. 

Jackson Brazzale's close association with Barker meant he too was not considered for selection in 2013.

The inclusions of Vaughn Garner, Clinton Murdoch, Marshall Richardson and Simon Body will add considerable cricketing talent
to a line-up that has been lacking in experience in recent years.

With Hankinson, McMahon and McArthy the only members of this years team who do not play regular cricket and Sir Geoff Pascoe still in the USA on his education junket,
hopes are high that this year will be the one.
 
Due to a lack of dedication Joel McMahon has been stripped of his vice captaincy.
After countless hours of deliberation selectors have awarded Vice Captaincy to both Jakob Sluiter and Jarryd Mills.

2013 Willowfest Campaign
PHR Dedication finished the 2013 Willowfest Carnival in 5th Place, (third place in "B" Grade) winning one game and losing 4.
It was a frustrating carnival for the side, with the with 3 very tight losses (14 Runs, 9 Runs and 5 Runs).

The 2013 Sovereigns MDP was awarded to Jarryd Mills after an excellent performance with the Ball and the Bat.
Mills was the third highest runs scorer for the side with 85 runs, and took nine wickets at an average of 13.9.

This is Jarryd's first MDP after nine years of play for PHR Dedication
