Created around the core of one of Perth's most well known yet elusive cycling bunch's, The Royal Hutt River Silvertails will initially fly the Principality flag at the Cyclo Sportif run by Bicycling WA beginning 7th November at Byford. In coming years the Principality also plans on holding National Cycling Championships in both Road and Mountain Bike categories. An approach to Cycling's governing body the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is also being contemplated to seek official sanction of a National Association. Silvertails spokesman Marshall Allen said “Personally I have followed the Principality's progress since I was a young child. The Silvertails have always been a progressive cycling group with a large international representation so this tie up is a natural association". His Royal Highness Prince Leonard welcomes the Silvertails as the Principality's representatives and wishes them well as they strive to bring honour in cycling to the Principality - "bringing home Gold and promoting good sportsmanship !". The Principality of Hutt River is situated 595 km north of Perth, Western Australia and is about 75 square km in area, consisting of some 18,500 acres of land. Hutt River is an Independent Sovereign State having seceded from Australia on the Twenty First Day of April 1970 and is of comparable size to Hong Kong (not the New Territories). HRH Prince Leonard is a keen supporter of sports with the Principality being represented in a myriad of sporting events and teams around the world. |
