ACTIVITY:

Release of the Second Edition of the Drill and Instructor’s Artillery Manuals for the United States Army.

ACTIVITY DATE:

3 January 2010

ACTIVITY DETAILS:

The Royal School of Artillery announces the release of the Second Edition of the Artillery Drill Manual and the Artillery Instructor Manual for the United States Army Field Artillery Association (USFAA). The Drill Manual has been updated to include revisions to the basic Field Artillery drill as requested by the Instructor Cadre of the USFAA Artillery School, as well as to include new drills for Muzzle-Loading Siege Mortars, Siege Cannons, Mountain Howitzers, and Naval Guns. Historical information on US Field Artillery has also been included, as well as information on horse cannon limbering and unlimbering, safety checklists, and procedures for preparing and firing live ammunition.

The Instructor’s Manual has been updated to make teaching the drill consistent with the updated drills in the Drill Manual, and to include lecture topics on ordinance, deployment, and historical uses of field artillery.

These new Editions represent the first major revisions of the original Muzzle Loading Artillery Manuals, which were published in 2005. The USFAA artillery school, in its official capacity as an extension of the Unites States Army, continues to use the artillery manuals that were written, provided, and copyright protected by the RHRA. The Chief of the Royal Hutt River Artillery, and the Commander of the Royal School of Artillery of the Royal Hutt River Army, continues to serve as a member of the Instructor Corps of the USFAA Artillery School and as Author and Editor-in-Chief of the Artillery Manuals.

ACTIVITY PURPOSE:

Participating in educational activities is a core function of the Royal Hutt River Artillery and the Royal School of Artillery. By providing educational materials that can be used by a branch of the United States Army, we build closer ties with this military organization and advance our goals of the recognition of the RHRA and the Principality.

ACTIVITY RESULTS:

Final results are pending.

REQUIRED/PLANNED FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITY:

Continue working with the USFAA on future editions and educational needs.
